My wife Meggan and I were both born and raised in the Myrtle Beach area. She and I met in youth group as teens, became high school sweethearts and have been married since 1999. We have served and partnered with local churches for years. We have ministered to youth and college-age students, as well as taught and led in various capacities. Over the last ten years, we have had a growing desire to help plant a church that glorifies Christ. We believe this is done through loving, teaching and encouraging one another to live life with purpose and on mission. Though planting a church is a daunting task, we have a deep, yearning passion to see people in the Grand Strand awakened to the beauty and glory found in Jesus. During the church planting process, we have prayerfully decided to partner with the EFCA, through which I am receiving my pastoral ordination. Meggan is currently pursuing a Biblical Counseling certification with Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF). She has a huge heart for walking alongside those who are hurting because of Christ’s beautiful redemption in her own life. As a couple, we love to labor with others in serving Jesus, developing leaders and seeing Christ’s grace at work in them. We currently reside in the Carolina Forest area with our lovely eight-year-old daughter, Sophia. She is full of life and loves anything that sparkles. She also shares in our excitement of fostering-to-adopt a sibling, who finally arrived March 6th, 2013! Please pray with us as we go through this transition with all its joys and challenges. *Update* We are elated to announce that we finalized the adoption of our son, Landon Edwards Goff! As of November 13, 2013, he is now our precious boy forever.
I grew up outside the small town of Hemingway (population just 455 at the last census). I am the youngest of five children and my life has been shaped by tragedy. When I was nine years old my father took his life. The loss changed my life on many levels, drawing me closer to my family and leading me to scriptures that proclaim the Lord will be a father to the fatherless. As I look back on my life, I see clearly how God has set me apart from birth and by His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son to me. Shortly after this awakening I met my future bride, Ketra, while studying for my Pharmacy degree. After graduation, I returned to my roots to work in the same hospital where I was born. Ketra and I settled in First Baptist Church Surfside Beach, teaching in the youth ministry and leading a young couples Sunday school class. While serving at Surfside, I was blessed by being ordained into the deacon ministry. During this time God laid on our hearts the desire to help plant a church. Through some amazing events He opened the door for us to meet Randy and Meggan, and confirmed that this is the couple we are to walk faithfully beside as we chase after Him. As we continue down this path, I look forward to helping build a church that glorifies Jesus by promoting and organizing Doxa Community groups. My wife and I currently reside in the Surfside area with our three children, Claira, JD, and our newest addition, Hannah.
As a native of Horry County, I've been in Children's Ministry for over 25 years and now serve as the Children's director for Doxa. My passion for God, my family and for children drives everything I'm involved in. I'm a teacher at Trinity Christian School and the director of Go!, a nonprofit that creates fun and interactive worship experiences for families, to help them put God first and listen to his voice. Through my nonprofit work I've spread the gospel locally, nationally and even internationally. I firmly believe that children can have a personal relationship with Christ and become wholehearted, fully devoted disciples. Therefore, as a children’s minister, my goal in not simply to keep them busy, but to invest in their spiritual development. I aim to provide a safe, spiritually vibrant and fun environment for each child, and encourage parental involvement. I remain a resident of Conway, where I grew up, and love every chance I get with my grandchildren, Sophia and Landon.
Matthew 19:14 (ESV) Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
